¢Á Wind Farms to be Built in 4 Regions DATE : 2002.6.26
The government plans to build large-scale power-generation plants utilizing wind energy, which is said to be environmentally friendly, in four regions in the country, including Daegwallyeong in Gangwon province, Jeju Island, Shinan in Jeonnam Province and Saemangeum in Jeonbuk Province.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy said Sunday it will move ahead with plans to set up the so-called wind farms in these four areas to expand the number of power-generation facilities using wind energy.

The estimated combined power-generation capacity for the four plants is 300,000 kilowatts.

The ministry said that construction projects will be spearheaded by the private sector investment but the power generation subsidiaries of state power monopoly Korea Electric Power Corp. are also expected to participate.

The ministry also said that the government will compensate for the difference if the price of wind power runs higher than the market power price.
